Pittcon is the world’s largest annual conference and exposition for laboratory science and attracts over 16,000 attendees from industry, academia and government from 90 countries worldwide. Pittcon 2016 will offer the latest technology and instrumentation from more than 900 exhibitors, a diverse Technical Program of over 2,000 abstracts to technical presentations, over 100 Short Courses to enhance your educational experience, and networking sessions that provide the chance to exchange innovative ideas with scientists from around the world.

The 2016 topic of the 27th James L. Waters Annual symposium is ‘Super-resolution Microscopy’. This prestigious symposium will discuss the introduction of commercial super-resolution nanoscopy instrumentation, from its early development through commercialisation and application. This session will also highlight the award of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Eric Betzig, W.E. Moerner and Stefan Hell for their pioneering efforts in the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy, which brings optical microscopy into the nanodimension that has formed the basis of super-resolution nanoscopy.

The outstanding panel of speakers who will be presenting at the Pittcon 2016 Waters Symposium include: Eric Betzig, Janelia Research Campus; Teng-Leong Chew, Janelia Research Campus; Bo Huang, University of California, San Francisco; Timothy Harris, Janelia Research Center; Alex Soell, Carl Zeiss AG.

This informative session will take place during Pittcon on Monday 7th March, 2016, at 1:30 pm. Details and bios of the speakers can be found at pittcon.org.

The 2015 Short Courses will run from 5th -10th March. With over 100 from which to choose from and offered at beginner and intermediate levels, these range from one-half day up to two-days. There are a wide variety of classes covering topics are covering relevant analytical topics in food science, water/wastewater, environmental, life science, pharmaceutical to name a few. Courses for broad-based application and

general lab functions include lab management, quality control, technical writing, statistics, data analysis and lab safety.

This year there are more than 35 new courses added in topics, such as, chromatography, environmental, analytical methods, nanotechnology and statistical methods.

Short Course Chairman Amit Ghosh commented: “The Pittcon Short Course program is an affordable way for lab professionals to stay abreast of new techniques, continue their education, enhance skills and bring new efficiencies to the workplace.” He added: “Taking a course definitely adds value to the participant’s total Pittcon experience and many times, serves as justification for attending the conference and exposition.”

The topics for Conferee Networking during Pittcon 2016 have recently been announced. Conferee Networking sessions provide an informal venue for a small group of participants to openly discuss topics of mutual interest or solve problems specific to certain instrumentation or procedures.

This year, there will be 32 facilitated sessions during Conference week covering topics related to food science, specialty analysis, environmental science, water quality, materials science, biomedical, laboratory Information/data analysis, pharmaceutical science and more. These unique 90-minute networking opportunities begin on Sunday and run through to Wednesday afternoon and are open to all registered conferees at no extra cost.

The 2016 Technical Program includes over 2,000 technical presentations offered in symposia, oral sessions, workshops, awards, and posters. The core of the Technical Program, analytical chemistry and applied spectroscopy, covers a wide range of applications such as, biotechnology, biomedical, drug discovery, environmental, food science, fuels/energy, genomics, lab management, life science, materials science, nanotechnology, polymers/plastics, proteomics and water/ wastewater. The Technical Program, begins on Sunday 6th March and runs through to Thursday 10th March 2016.

Over the following pages we take a look at a small selection of the exhibitors and products that will be on display this year. For further information on the show and a full list of exhibitors go to www.pittcon.org

International Labmate look forward to welcoming you to booth 2431 at Pittcon 2016. O
