Gordon Sloan GHA Chair

Welcome

WELCOME to the February issue of the Key. At GHA we always want to increase opportunities for people. Our Modern Apprenticeship

programme offers youngsters in our communities the chance to kick-start a career with good prospects in a great organisation. Read how young people can benefit on pages 4 and 5. Glasgow Gold is another good way to increase opportunities. Our tenant reward scheme helped

tenant Tony Philip from Drumchapel realise his dream of opening a restaurant. Read about Tony’s new business - and how he’s also created opportunities for others - on page 3. Our work to regenerate communities really is changing the face of Glasgow. Check out page 6 for striking images of how Sighthill has been transformed recently. With 157 new homes opening in Barmulloch, and tenants giving us their views on exciting plans for the Gallowgate, we really are working to make the city a better place to live. Over the next five years GHA will be building many more new homes, investing in our existing homes and introducing new services for tenants. Find out more on page 11. We also have another interesting

letters page. Remember, we’re always keen to hear your views on GHA, the Key, or anything else. Write to us at the usual address.

SERVICES: Rent pays for a range of GHA services, including building new homes Huge response over rents

THANKS to everyone who gave us their views on our proposals for this year’s rents. All tenants received a letter late last year about the proposed rents for 2016-17. We have had thousands of responses to the consultation which has now closed. The GHA Board is looking at the feedback and will make a decision soon. We will write to you shortly to let you know the outcome and to tell you what your rent will be.

The new rents will start from April. GHA’s Maureen Dowden said: “We know times are tough for tenants. That’s why we always try to keep rents as low as we can

while still providing really good services and modern homes for people.” If you’re having trouble paying your rent get in touch. Our advisors can help you budget and manage your money, make sure you’re claiming all the benefits you’re due and help you cut your fuel bills. Rents pay for a huge range of GHA services. This includes our 24-hour customer service, repairs and maintenance, cleaning closes and back courts, tackling anti-social problems, neighbourhood environmental improvements, job creation programmes and youth diversionary schemes.
