African Drumming is a Great Stress Reliever F
or those with an interest in West African drumming, but can’t make it to evening classes, Studio Solomon is now offering daytime drumming opportunities—Beginner Djembe and West African Drumming—and a new class called Beat D’Stress, designed for meditation and relaxation for those looking for a unique way to de-stress during lunchtime hours. Starting May 10, beginner Djembe is Wednesday mornings at 10:30
a.m. and Beat D’Stress is Wednesdays at noon. Drumming instructor Yvonne Sadowy says, “You’ll be guided in a safe space
to drum away the internal clutter, release the angst and embrace you!” Studio Solomon brings culture and wellness together in many ways. Wellness is as much about the internal well-being as it is about physical fitness.

One of the six-by-eight-by-eight- foot structures will be built to 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) code, which is the cur- rent requirement in Pennsylvania. The other will be built to beyond- code (high-performance) standards. Both will house a huge block of ice inside the structure. Via the rate of ice melt within the structures, U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Central PA par- ticipants will visually demonstrate the superior performance of beyond- code structures as a reason to make changes to the building code adoption process and update current energy codes in Pennsylvania. USGBC Central PA & partners will be standing beside the Icehouses educating passersby and legisla- tors about the importance of energy codes and high-performance build- ings until 4 p.m. Any time during the month of June, people can stop by the Icehouses to view the ice melt and read the educational signage.
