VOTERS will go to the polls on May 4 to vote for their Kent county councillor. The county council’s Liberal De- mocrat group leader for 12 years, Trudy Dean, will be fighting to in- crease her majority in Malling Cen- tral where she stormed home with a huge personal vote four years ago.

Senior Conservatives Matthew Balfour, Peter Homewood and Sarah Hohler, who all won com- fortably in 2013, are also seeking re- election in their traditionally true-blue wards. Opposing Mrs Dean, who sits on Tonbridge and Malling Council and also chairs West Malling Parish Council, will be East Malling resi- dent Helen Brown, who is the only UKIP candidate in the swathe of Malling seats covered by Downs Mail. She returns to the fray after rep- resenting the party in Kings Hill ward two years ago in the borough election.
