A WOMAN whose dangerous driving caused the death of a mo- torcyclist and injured his passenger has been jailed for two years. Therese Langley (57), of Birling

ing off-plan do not have a full ad- dress to register. Parish councillor and chairman of Leybourne Chase Residents’ Associ- ation Marc Hogwood and County Cllr Sarah Hohler have been work- ing together to clarify the position. However, a spokesman for Kent County Council confirmed: “If someone puts down a plot number and they can prove they are reserv- ing a house,we would accept this as a request for a school place. “Unfortunately, there is never a guarantee a place at a preferred school will be available or offered.” Schools in the area are proving particularly popular, and there are plans to expand Leybourne Chase Academy. CllrHogwoodsaid: “The school is growing at a tremendous pace and is working with the residents’ asso- ciation on events and functions. “The school had always planned

on building an extension and this has been brought forward and shows how much the area needed a new school.”

Road, Snodland, pulled into the path of Lee Saunders’ Triumph Tiger on the A252 in Chilham, near Canter- bury, on Sunday, April 3, 2016. He died at the scene of the colli-

sion while his passenger was air- lifted to a London hospital with serious injuries. Langley admitted causing death

and serious injury by dangerous driving prior to her sentencing at

Canterbury Crown Court. In addition to the custodial sen-

tence, shewas also disqualified from driving for three years. The court heard how Langley’s

redVauxhall Zafira had pulled into a layby on the A252 near Soleshill Road andwas facing in the direction of Challock. As Mr Saunders’ motorcycle ap- proached, Langley drove onto the carriageway in front of him as she at- tempted to turn back towards Can- terbury.Heswerved butwas unable to avoid the car, which had crossed a double white line system.

Investigating officer Detective Constable David Holmes said: “The Highway Code states that you must not cross or straddle a double white line unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. Therese Langley broke this rule to tragic effect when she at- tempted to turn around on a busy carriageway. “She must now live with the con- sequences of her actions, and I hope the outcome of this case sends a strong message to other motorists of the importance of always being aware of your surroundings.”

Purple crocuses bloom for polio campaign

A CARPET of purple crocuses has appeared at Kings Hill to highlight one of the world’s most-feared diseases. The Ruby Giant bulbswere

planted by Kings Hill Rotary Club and Kings Hill developer Liberty Property Trust in October, as part of the club’s Purple4Polio campaign. The purple crocus is a symbol of

Rotary global campaign to eradicate polio, with the colour representing the purple dye used to mark the finger of an immunised child.
