exploring Japanese,
South Korean and American Contemporary Dance aesthet- ics - “Waiting in Seoul Walk- ing in Tokyo” - is performed by 21 Sonoma State University Dance Program students taking audiences on a journey through the streets of Seoul, Tokyo and San Francisco with movement, imagery, cityscape sounds and original music - bringing a sense of anonymity and con- nection that one experiences as an adventurer/traveler. “Wait- ing in Seoul Walking in Tokyo” was created by faculty and ac- claimed guest choreographers with SSU student dancers through Global Dance Stamp, a contemporary dance collabora- tion between the United States and Asia and semester-long residency.
Four of the six artists guest choreographers
traveled to
South Korea and Japan in 2016 for creative research, sharing their different cultural back- grounds, life experiences and artistic
aesthetics along the way. This new work reflects a DANCE “Time well-spent is life well-lived.” ~ Rajen Jani UPBEAT TIMES, INC. • APRIL 2017 • 21
