Santa Rosa, CA. ~ The rain has come, but the warm sun is beginning to show it’s face. It’s Spring! And new life is all around us. In the spirit of the season, the Art Trails Gallery at Corrick’s is de- lighted to host a lively new art exhibit: The Birds and the Bees! From April 5th to May 30th, a group of artists from the Sonoma County Art Trails program will have works featured

day, April 7th, from 5-7 in the evening, the exhibit will have it’s opening reception. The fea-

tured artists will join us, avail- able to talk about their work and inspirations, surrounded by

sweet peppers, Butterfly Ascle- pias, green, flat leaved parsley and Greek oregano.

Make a Jewel Garden meadow, choose rich, vibrant colors of wild- flowers, choose a sunny site, mix them up and rake them lightly into the disturbed soil! Don’t let them dry up. Keep them moist. Grow sweet violets to scatter on salads, orange and yellow calendulas to dust petals on everything.

Plant purple pansies, purple

string beans, purple flowering Clematis and a nice row of purple flowering lavender. Cup of tea? I always grow tender green onions, red, yellow and white for chopping in Salmon croquettes, a delicious favorite.

Do something different this garden season, learn to create the best garden soil, start a compost pile with neighbors, with friends, with your kids, build a raised bed, make a little ‘safe’ pond, eventu- ally full of happy frogs and amaz- ing water plants. Create a habitat.

Attract hungry red wigglers to digest everything you compost into rich earthworm castings that will eventually become your own en- riched garden amendments. Mulch everything with oat or ryegrass hay or a combination thereof, al- ways keeping an inch or two away from the stem or trunk of the plant to prevent rotting. Keep that pre- cious moisture in the ground! You decide!

Be an explorer this month! Dis- cover your favorite nursery/s. Take a trip to California Flora to finally landscape your little piece of para- dise with California natives.
