ENTERPRISE WITHIN PHARMACY HARRISON HEALTHCARE BElfASt

today’s community pharmacy is about so much more than simply dispensing with an increasing number of pharmacies carrying out outreach work in their local communities.

the winner of this year’s Enterprise Within Pharmacy Award is a supreme example of the great work that community pharmacists can do to help their patients with their health and wellbeing.

Harrison Healthcare reached out to the young men from their local community in a project, which was designed to improve the knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of disadvantaged young men and their families with regard to mental health issues.

‘there’s no doubt that, as pharmacists, we have a very important role to play in our local communities,’ said pharmacy owner,

Colin Harrison. ‘In our local area there are a lot of vulnerable people. through this project, we reached out to people we wouldn’t normally see on a day-to-day basis and we chose young men, because we know that many of them are both vulnerable and have a lot of mental health issues. It was also vitally important to us that we worked on a cross-community basis and, I’m delighted to say, the initiative proved very successful.’

‘I’m delighted to be here tonight to recognise the work that community pharmacists are doing in their local communities and going that extra mile to support their patients,’ said Paula o’Brien from award sponsors, Alliance Healthcare. ‘It’s both crucial and fundamental for us to support the work that our customers are doing on the frontline.’
