Day 6 Siem Reap. Phnom Kulen National Park is considered a sacred place of pilgrimage. Your included excursion takes you first to the 10th-century Hindu temple of Banteay Srei dedicated to the deity Shiva and adorned with magnificent carvings. Then journey to Ta Prohm, an ancient temple that is largely intact with jungle overgrowing much of its ruins. In the afternoon visit a local village supported by Viking River Cruises and spend time at one of the village schools. In the evening enjoy dinner in a local restaurant followed by a Cambodian circus show. This incredible show blends traditional and modern theatre and features beautifully choreographed music and dance.
Day 7 Kampong Thom and Kampong Cham. Check out of your hotel, and drive through the Cambodian countryside to your welcoming, colonial-style ship in Kampong Cham. Your journey takes you via the provincial capital of Kampong Thom, a city with a rich archaeological heritage and more than 200 temples. Settle in to your stateroom and meet the ship’s crew over a Welcome Cocktail Reception and Dinner.
Day 8 Kampong Cham. This morning, visit the Twin Holy Mountains of Phnom Pros and Phnom Srey with their many temples and pagodas. Afterwards visit an orphanage in Kampong Cham, whose students create beautiful paintings that are available to purchase. This afternoon your ship will set sail towards a silk-weaving village.
Take a walk through the village and discover how the rich silk fabrics are made.
Day 9 Phnom Penh. This morning’s included excursion takes you through a Cambodian village. Continue with a visit to the Udon Monastery to meet the monks and receive a blessing. This is followed by a stop at the next village famous for its silversmiths. Enjoy lunch on board as you cruise into Phnom Penh, once the ‘Pearl of Asia’. This afternoon, explore Phnom Penh’s park-lined riverfront area, with its restaurants, art galleries and silk shops in your free time.
