Day 5 Passau. This elegant German city built on three rivers – the Inn, Ilz and Danube – is home to the extraordinary 18th-century New Bishop’s Residence. On your included guided tour, stroll the beautiful old streets, past traditional patrician houses. You could visit the impressive baroque St. Stephen’s Cathedral where, at certain times of year, you can enjoy a concert on Europe’s largest pipe organ.*
*Organ concert is not available on Sundays or public holidays and is available from May – October only.
Day 6 Regensburg and Kelheim. In the beautifully preserved medieval city of Regensburg, see St. Peter’s Cathedral with its gleaming spires, the Old Town Hall and Old Stone Bridge as part of your included tour. In the afternoon, enjoy scenic cruising along the Danube River. Or take an optional trip through the spectacular Danube Narrows, the narrowest and steepest section of the river and alight for a guided tour of Weltenburg Abbey**. One of Bavaria’s oldest monasteries, the abbey is renowned for its dark ale brewed here by monks since 1050. Rejoin your ship in Kelheim for dinner on board.
** Weltenburg Abbey tour is available from May - October only.
Day 7 Main-Danube Canal and Nuremberg. Sail through the many locks that comprise the engineering marvel of the Main-Danube Canal. Stretching 106 miles from Kelheim on the Danube to Bamberg on the Main River, it connects the Black Sea to the North Sea. In Nuremberg, tour the medieval walled city with its half-timbered houses and dramatic castle. See the Palace of Justice, site of the 1946 Nuremberg Trials. Shop for handicrafts in the delightful Main Market Square. Alternatively, take a fascinating optional World War II history tour to the Documentation Centre Museum where you can learn about the Nazi party rallies held in Nuremberg.
Day 8 Nuremberg. After breakfast, we take you to Munich airport for your return flight to the UK.
This itinerary is also available in the reverse direction. Port sequence, places visited, tours and times may vary or be different to those shown above.
From time to time the Sun Deck may be closed to allow the ship to pass under low bridges.
