Lifestyle Great turn out for the Annual Civic Ball

MORE THAN one hundred glamorous guests gathered for the annual Civic Reception, Dinner and Ball at the Civic Hall in Uppermill.

The black tie event was hosted this year by Chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council Cllr Pam Byrne and her daughter Helen Harrison.

Councillors, family and friends were joined by

Mayor of Mirfield Sean Guy and Mayoress Vanessa Ibbetson

special guests including 10 dignitaries from local councils and the Mayor of Oldham Derek Heffernan, attending for the 36th time.

Saddleworth School string musicians entertained guests in the Lower Halls for the reception before a mouth-watering three-course meal was served by Manns Wharf catering, with drinks from Winos.

Brief speeches were given, including The Loyal Toast proposed by Anne Sykes DL, followed by a toast from Master of Ceremonies John Hudson and responses by Cllr Byrne and Mayor of Oldham Derek Heffernan.

Cllr Byrne thanked her councillors and the public for their support, saying: “Everybody does their bit, whether that’s big or small, and that’s the essence of Saddleworth.”

Guests danced the rest of the night away to music from The Broadway Big Band, and money was raised for the Chairman’s chosen charities through a raffle and guess the name of the giant cuddly dog.
