Avocado on toast turning being a firm favourite at the moment. Scona have offered our group some volunteering opportunities including upcycling furniture, cafe and garden work.

We have a young man called Ben Power joining our band of wonderful volunteers and thanks to Bethany and Brooke for their invaluable volunteering help by the way! You are a massively valuable part of the team. Ben is producing a Fanzine for our happy group as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Funky Fitness and Fun magazine will keep you informed of all future activities and outings including all the new things we have learnt along our wonderful journey.

We are working on our own 50s and 60s show which we will be performing live at the Lido House, Grotton for the residents there soon. Meals cooked at the centre by staff and members recently included, warm butternut squash salad with quinoa; hearty vegetable and chicken broth; carrot and tomato soup; 3 bean soup; tuna and salad wraps. We enjoy loads of fruity treats too each mealtime including melon, stewed plums, fruit medley, with smoothies always a firm favourite.

You may be interested to know for yourselves that coconut water is an excellent source of potassium. Also Almond Milk and Cinamon may help to balance blood sugar.

Our members at Funky Fitness and Fun wish all readers of the Saddleworth magazine a happy and healthy "spring in the air time" and we encourage you to choose healthier options when eating. Like us, why not try a water challenge, encouraging yourselves, family and friends to drink more water. We all know water is so beneficial for us all. Enjoy!

A Belated Happy New Year

from the team! By

Christine Harrop

Last year we took a positive decision to concentrate on a smaller number of events but aim to raise a similar amount of money!

Thanks to everyone's support, help and donations we were able to raise over £9,000 which is fantastic. Many people went the extra mile to help the team including Alison Simpson, Faz of The Spice of Life, Carl Walkden & The Roaches Lock. In just 4 years the team will have donated to the Christie almost £45,000 which has helped in so many areas including the Mobile Chemotherapy Unit and the Young Oncology Unit.

This year we have chosen to stay with our existing campaign the Proton Beam Therapy

Unit as this will have a massive impact on how treatment is given. Our first event of the year will be a NEW TO YOU on Thursday 30th March at Uppermill Methodist Church from 7pm. Entrance is only £2.50 to include a hot beverage. A few special cakes and biscuits will also be on offer. Pre loved ladies clothing, shoes, handbags, hats, scarves and jewellry available ready to be loved again. If you are able to donate any good quality items, we can collect them. If you could please contact us before 21st March to arrange pick up.

We hope to see you on the 30th when you can help our campaign for the Christie.
