Throughout 2016 our Craft and Cake group were busy knitting and selling individual designed Remembrance poppies and their hard work raised a fantastic £565 which they were very pleased to present to the Royal British Legion last month.

At our February 1st meeting, Kerry Newton, independent consultant with the health, wellness, skincare and beauty company Arbonne, gave us a brief insight into the company sharing with us their luxurious products which are purely botanically based and free of animal testing. At our March meeting Fran Pridham will talk to us about the beauty and culture of

Madagascar and her experiences of working with the locals to provide better irrigation systems and clean water wells. In April, Stephen Ward from Oldham Mountain Rescue will be bringing along Moss, his newly trained Border Collie, to explain how the Search and Rescue Dogs use the inherent capabilities of the ‘wolf that occupies our hearth’. We will learn how these lovely domesticated dogs are trained to be clever life-saving heroes. Further information on the remainder of the programme of monthly speakers, all forthcoming events, activities and subgroups can be found by visiting our website www.saddleworthwi.com or our Facebook page. Our popular members sub-groups meet on a monthly basis and are a great way to make new friends of all ages. Visit our website for further information on our daytrips for 2017; our food and drink group; theatre trips; the book club; the singing group; planned walks and the very popular craft and cake group which meets once a month at Scona in Uppermill. We meet the first Wednesday of each month at 8pm at the Saddleworth Hotel. Doors open at 7.15 pm. New members and guests are always welcome at our meetings. Guests can attend one ‘taster’ meeting before joining the W.I. The annual subscription is £39. We require a donation of £1.00 per member and £3.00 for non-members per meeting towards running costs and refreshments.
