All-girls cast goes to town in Dick Whittington panto


The Looe Millpool Centre was the venue for a four-night sell- out performance of Dick Whittington, performed by the all female Looe Community Players.


Wendy Collins, as Dick Whittington, was a poor, tired and sad chap until Tom the cat, played by Eloise Simm- Smith, made him his fortune by fighting off all the rats and mice on an island.


Three little ducks did a dance to open the pantomime, followed by four maypole dancers, and then many rats and mice. All the children came from Sheila’s School of Dancing in Looe and, said an audience member, ‘were superb’.


The backdrops were painted by artist Maggie Vickery, and the coach and boats were made by another artist, Graham Barbour.


Pantomime Cow


The cast looked ‘stunning’ in costumes designed and made by Sue Dwyer and Sue Bird. Buttercup, the pantomime cow also made by them, caused many a laugh.


This was a true community venture as the youngest member of the cast was just four years old, and the eldest actor over 80.

Marilyn King, the show’s producer and director, says that the Looe Community Players are looking forward to


repeating their successful play- reading evening – ‘Play to Play’ – in the summer to raise funds and then to rehearsals for the pantomime Sleeping Beauty next year.
