HAKIN UNITED’S Nicky
Woodrow scored twice as he helped his side to victory over arch rivals Merlins Bridge on Saturday (Jan 14).
Both sides showed plenty of
commitment but it was the Vikings who eventually came out on top with a strong second half performance. Nicky Woodrow put the Vikings
ahead in the first half and they held a 1-0 lead until the break. However, what was said in the
Merlins Bridge dressing room at half time seemed to work as Joe Leahy scored within 30 seconds of the restart to make it 1-1. Ryan Wilson then came close to
scoring for the home side but his shot was saved by Wizards keeper Nick Jones.
The home side were then given a
chance to go back in front when referee James Olyott spotted a handball in the box and pointed to the spot. Woodrow was given the task
of taking penalty but his effort was superbly saved by Jones. Adam John looked dangerous for
the Vikings and he went on a mazy run across the edge of the box, evading four tackles, and his shot was then turned into the net by Woodrow to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. The Wizards also had chances and Steve McNabney came close when the

ball fell to him in the box but his shot was pushed away by Vikings keeper James Manson. It was nearly 3-1 in spectacular
fashion as a ball was played over the top which Woodrow ran onto and his looping volley from the right hand side of the box bounced off the post. The Vikings were beginning to
dominate and another cross from the right found Ryan Wilson in the box and he volleyed the ball home to make it 3-1.
Moments later it was 4-1 when
Brad Barrett played the ball over the top for James Stanmore who controlled well before turning inside a tackle and burying a shot in the bottom left corner. The Vikings continued to look for
goals and Adam John again caused problems winning a free kick on the edge of the box. Steele stepped up to take the free kick but was unlucky to see his effort bounce off the bar and over.
It remained 4-1 to the Vikings and
the win keeps up their 100% record in the league with 10 wins out of 10 so far.
They are now just a point behind
their opponents and have three games in hand on them. On Saturday (Jan 21), Hakin will
look to keep their winning record going when they take on champions Goodwick United. On the same day, Merlins Bridge
are in action in the third round of the Senior Cup against Prendergast Villa.

Goal: Mikey Davies lobs the keeper to put Lamphey 2-0 up Johnston
Lamphey

LAMPHEY put in a superb performance as they came away with a 6-0 win against a struggling Johnston side on Saturday (Jan 14). They went ahead early on as a
cross from Mikey Davies was tapped in at the far post by Billy Davies. It was 2-0 soon after when a ball
was played through and Mikey Davies lobbed the ball over the advancing Johnston keeper. Lamphey continued to play
well but their third goal came in controversial circumstances. A Johnston player was down
injured and teammates called for their player to kick the ball out. Instead, Lamphey’s Nico Morrison nicked the ball and it was then tapped in by Billy Davies for his second. Johnston’s keeper was not happy
and walked to the half way line to voice his displeasure at the Lamphey players. He was clearly upset that the goal had been allowed to stand and walked off, meaning Johnston would have to find a replacement keeper. The game was eventually resumed
and it wasn’t long before the Stags had their fourth goal when Billy Davies ran through before shooting low into the bottom right corner to complete his

hat trick. Johnston’s Ryan Doyle then went
through at the other end but his shot was saved. Doyle came close again when the
ball was played into the box but he could not put the ball in and Lamphey eventually cleared. It was 4-0 at half time and
Lamphey continued to dominate in the second half. 16 minutes into the second half,
Morrison and Dano Kitts exchanged passes on the right hand side before Kitts went on to score in the far corner to make it 5-0. Josh Sture then played the ball
through for Josh Dearsley, who shot low into the corner to make it 6-0. Johnston were almost given a
chance to score a consolation when Ross Fortune cleared the ball straight to their player but Fortune redeemed himself to stop the ball going in. Richard Evans also made a good
save late on to deny Johnston once more and keep his clean sheet intact. The win for Lamphey is their ninth
of the season and keeps them fourth in the table, two points off the leaders but having played more games than the teams around them. On Saturday (Jan 21), Lamphey
are away to third placed West Dragons while Johnston are at home to Neyland.
