NEYLAND proved too strong
for Pembroke Dock Quins on Saturday (Jan 14), as they won 68-7 to record back to back victories. The Quins were only able to
field 14 players and that showed, as Neyland did well to exploit the gaps left by the extra man. Luke Dawes got the home side
going with a try but the conversion attempt was missed. Ben Goodridge then went over
twice, as did teammate Patrick Bellerby, to increase the home side’s advantage and Toby Hayman added the extra two points on all four occasions. The Quins never gave up and they
managed a try from Jordan Asparassa, which was then converted by Ben Hathaway.
over Llangwm on Saturday (Jan 14) as they ran in four tries in a 27-0 victory. The home side won the reverse
That meant the All Blacks held
a 33-7 lead at half time and they continued to pile the pressure on in the second half. Goodridge then completed his
hat trick in the second half and the conversion from Hayman was successful. Powerful forward Sam Katakai
also went over twice and Hayman added the extra two points on both occasions. Craig Power and Adam Cawley
also went over for the All Blacks and Hayman made it five out five in the second half with two more conversions. The win means Neyland stay fifth
in the table and in touch with the teams in the top four, while the Quins remain third from bottom in the table. On Saturday (Jan 21), Pembroke
Dock Quins will be hoping to have a full complement of players as they welcome Laugharne.

fixture 30-14 earlier in the season and it looked like a similar result would be on the cards. Dorian Pugh scored a good try for Tregaron, as did Nathan Lloyd, as the
home side played well throughout the game. Wyn Phillips and Jordan Thomas
also got their names on the scoresheet and Gwion Phillips added the extra two points twice from four attempts. Phillips also added a penalty to
complete a resounding victory for the home side against a Llangwm side that battled hard but were unable to cope with the strength of their opponents. On Saturday (Jan 21), Tregaron
are away to league leaders St Clears, while Llangwm are at home to Milford Haven.
Saints go clear at the top
St Davids St Clears

League 3 West A ST CLEARS moved clear at
the top of the table after beating bottom of the table St Davids 72-5 on Saturday (Jan 14). A bright but very windy venue for
this Division 3 West A game, with St Davids opening proceedings into the teeth of the gale, in a fixture which has proved something of a problem for the visitors in the last two seasons with the home side winning on both occasions. A good start was needed to avoid
any repetition and full back Will Davies provided the best possible after four minutes, with a try in the corner finishing off an excellent individual break from half way. Five minutes later, a repeat
performance with another touchdown for Will - this time under the posts - plus the extras from James Davies, was capped off by another, 10 minutes later, for his third and a comfortable 17 point cushion. A number of further chances for
the visitors went begging and the home side were able to take advantage, coping with the blustery conditions better, gaining confidence from set piece advantage both in scrums and line outs, establishing both territory and possession for the rest of the half but without really looking like scoring against a solid St Clears defence. On the stroke of half time,
however, in what proved to be a killer blow after all the good work from the home side, number eight Tom Rees touched down for the bonus point score for the visitors and a half time score of 22 points without reply.
AFTER hosting big Welsh
championships and SIAB International Cross Country events over the past three years, the grounds of Parc Dinefwr will be the venue for the 2017 Dyfed Secondary Schools Cross Country championships. This year’s event will be held
at the magnificent Parc Dinefwr in Llandeilo on Tuesday, February 7. Each district, weather permitting,
is due to hold their area events over the next fortnight, and the first 10 in each race will go forward to represent their area on February 7. Many of the best cross country athletes in the district are expected to feature.
There will be eight races on the
programme with the age groups being: Year Seven, Year Eight/Nine, Year 10/11, and Year 12/13 (both boys and girls). The timetable for the day begins at 11am with the Year Seven Girls. Medals will be awarded to the
first three in each of the eight races. There will be first aid available, as well as refreshments on sale, along with other facilities and plenty of excellent spectating views. After the championships, 12 in
each age group will be selected that day to compete for Dyfed schools in the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships in Brecon on
That momentum continued into
the second half and the home side never really had a look in after that with regular scores from scrum half Llyr Ebsworth (three), the first within one minute of the restart his first for the club, fly half Shane Morgan, another for Will Davies (his fourth) to bring up the half century and, after a brief respite, further scores from flanker Dewi Davies, second row Carwyn Davies and a second for Tom Rees. The scoreboard was a bit of an
injustice to the home side, who never gave up, and they were rewarded finally for their efforts with a consolation try from Jerome Conlon in the last action of the game to produce the final score of 72 points to 5. On Saturday (Jan 21), St Clears are
at home to Tregaron while St Davids are away to Pembroke.
Dyfed Schools Cross Country Championships
Saturday, March 18. Dyfed schools have an outstanding
record in the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships, winning the overall team title every year, except once, since 1991. The schools district is indebted to
the kind support to all volunteers and helpers who give their time to make the event possible, especially West Wales Freemasons Provincial Council and members of Carmarthen Harriers athletics club. Athletes can find full information
of the event, which includes a thorough course map, on www.
carmarthenharriers.co.uk, where full results will also appear.
