Weddings

the elements in between services. Romantic candles

In January, days are short and

it gets dark very early. Embrace the long evenings with the addition of lots of romantic candlelight in both your ceremony and reception space to give a warm and cosy ambient lighting to your celebration.

Winter wedding colours Winter allows for a rich and warm

colour palette; decorate your venue in rich and warm tones such as berry red, burgundy, black, and gold. You could always add a touch of extra wintry romance with lots of natural evergreen greenery, or even a hint of tartan.

Coat check As all your guests make the

commute to your wedding, the chilly weather will mean they will all have burdensome coats in tow. Make sure someone is in charge of taking these coats at your reception and making

Wintry wedding favours When choosing your wedding

favours, why not embrace the wintry season and incorporate the chilly elements as a theme? Blankets or pashminas could be used during a chilly reception and double up as a favour afterwards, whilst sparklers, cookies, mulled wine spices, candy canes or little bottles of Baileys would all make cute and doable winter wedding favour options.

Winter cake toppers For a more subtle hint at your All about the timing As it gets dark much earlier in the

winter, you should adjust your photo schedule to make sure there’s enough light. Try taking the portraits before the ceremony as it’s often a good idea – your makeup and dress will be in much better shape and the fading light will enhance your silhouette in a subtle glow. If you're not sure how to go about this, just chat to your photographer. They should have a good idea of what will work with the lighting available.

sure they're kept safe to prevent clutter. Keep guests warm

Once coats have been put aside,

consider making a little extra effort to ensure your guests are kept warm and cheery once they arrive. A hot drink on arrival is a nice and simple addition to any reception that will see that your guests are a bit more alive in preparation for the night to commence.

winter wedding, you could adorn the cake with a winter cake topper. A non- traditional topper that adds a light touch of sparkle to your cake could be just the right thing; think sparklers, candles and glittery trims when it comes to your centrepiece to draw in the New Year and bring warmth to the cold nights.

WINTER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

Umbrellas If you have an outdoor wedding

planned, have special umbrellas on standby for photographs. These don't have to be fancy - simple and black could offer a classy touch whilst a beautifully adorned brolly could double up as a photo prop that could bring something extra to the day.

Don't ruin your heels If you're wearing heels, have

another shoe option for your outdoor pictures. You don't want to be sinking into mud or snow in your designer stilettos or risk your toes getting wet and cold in the process.

Keep hands warm Ice cold blue hands are not a

good look in winter wedding pictures; this is where hand warmers come in handy. Many retail stores have wide selections of pretty options throughout winter. DIY hand warmers are also an option with many tutorials available online. Meanwhile, hot water bottles could also be used on pews during your reception.
