LEARN MORE

Only 40 miles from Hong Kong and the perfect two or three-night addition to a Far East holiday or stopover, Macao is one of Asia’s most exciting destinations and boasts a unique Portuguese-Chinese heritage which has created a melting pot of culinary flavours.

Its unique mix of European and Asian cultures has resulted in a gastronomic

paradise which perfectly blends East and West to cook up an amazingly diverse food scene ranging from sizzling street stalls to Michelin-starred restaurants and famed pastry shops. The Portuguese arrived in Macao in the 16th century and their influence can still be

seen everywhere in Macao today, from the World Heritage-listed architecture to the colourful festivals and, of course, the food. The local Macanese cuisine was one of the world’s first fusion cuisines, with influences not just from Portugal and China, but also India, South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. Visitors to Macao can also enjoy superb

Cantonese dishes and some of the best Portuguese food outside Portugal.

Why not become a Macao Specialist? Macao’s online training programme – macaospecialist.co.uk – contains a wealth of information on the destination.
