spending more, travelling more and opting for more-active holidays than ever before. “The awards were voted for by the

over-50s to commend the holidays and experiences that serve them best. Those shortlisted showed an understanding of not only what older travellers require to make a trip successful, but what it is that will make it really special.” Marshall noted a “significant change” in this year’s shortlist line-up, with only the best airline nominees unchanged from last year. “It shows that voters are keenly aware of what is available and that the travel companies have everything to play for with this increasingly important demographic group,” she added. According to a recent Abta report, the 55+ age group was the only one to increase the average number of holidays they book each year.

NOMINEE TED WAKE: DON’T LEAVE IT TO THE KIDS!

Ted Wake, managing director of luxury operator Kirker Holidays, has urged mature travellers to spend their hard-earned cash on holiday upgrades instead of leaving it to their children. Wake, shortlisted for the exceptional

achievement award, said: “If you don’t travel club class, your children and grandchildren will. Live for the moment and enjoy every trip. Treat yourself to a flight or hotel upgrade while time and opportunity are on your side.” Also shortlisted are Graham Simpson,

managing director of Simpson Travel, and Noel Josephides, chairman of Sunvil Travel. For the first time, two women are on the
