can sport horse registries for a number of reasons. The AHHA is one of the oldest North American sport horse registries, having begun in 1977. The AHHA enjoys the full support and endorsement of its parent organization the German Holsteiner Verband. The German verband breeding director, Dr. Thomas Nissen, is a frequent attendee of both the AHHA annual general meeting and the breed- ing stock approval tour. Verband stallion committee member and judge Michael Gonell is also present on every approvals tour.

Our Magazine The AHHA continues to publish Holsteiner magazine, a semiannual publication that is free to members and serves as part of the writ- ten and photographic history of the association. The magazine began in the early 1980s as the biweekly newsletter Impulsion. In the 1990s, the publication frequency varied before adopting a four issue per year format in 2005. The title was kept until 2006 when it was changed to Holsteiner. Currently Holsteiner magazine is published twice each year. Each issue devotes itself to recording and promoting the accom- plishments of AHHA members and breeders. Guest authors submit articles providing historical insight into the Holsteiner breed, chron- icling important trends and events of the breed, and providing useful insight and information for our membership. Once a year the magazine devotes most of an issue to the AHHA breeding stock approvals tour.
Approvals and Awards The AHHA holds a breeding stock approvals tour once a year, usually beginning in August and ending in October. Tour sites run from the Northeast to the mid-Atlantic and Gulf Coast through the Midwest, into California, the Northwest and Canada. In recent years, the AHHA has held sites in California, Virginia, Washington state, Florida, Texas, Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Kansas, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Colorado, Ontario and Quebec.
Site hosts create regional events based on demand. The
approvals tour can cover any area or region where a site host would like to hold an AHHA approval. The judging panel includes, as mentioned, Michael Gonell from
the Hosteiner Verband along with long-time AHHA head judge Arlene Rigdon. Ms. Rigdon has been part of the AHHA breeding stock judging panel since the beginning and has more than three decades experience as an AHHA judge. Ms. Rigdon has also been instrumental in growing our judging pool, most notably with the addition of experienced horseman and judge Matt Davis. This sort of support from the German Verband, along with guidance and consistency from within our membership, allows our breeders to
