Greater Birmingham’s leading companies HelmsBriscoe

expands team US headquartered HelmsBriscoe, the world’s largest venue finding company, is expanding its Midlands team in the wake of some positive financial results. Tamworth-based associate

regional vice president Diana White (pictured) said: “I am really excited about our results – collectively through Q3 2016 we have booked an impressive $860m in room revenue and 4.4 million

room nights. “This represents a

10 per cent increase over

Q3 2015 and we are on track to achieve well over a billion dollars in room revenue and over 5.5 million room nights by the end of 2016. “Total estimated meeting spend

for 2016 looks to exceed the 2015 total of $1.8bn. “I am delighted to announce the

expansion of the HB Midlands team and we will soon be actively recruiting for more high calibre industry professionals.” Diana was the first UK HelmsBriscoe Associate back in 2001 when the company created its international division.

Fleet management specialist Fleet Alliance is encouraging its own staff to ‘go green’. The company, which manages more than 18,000

vehicles with a combined value in excess of £500m, is giving its employees a better choice of ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs). This will see two hybrids and a pure electric vehicle

added to the company’s fleet, and is in line with Fleet Alliance’s commitment to encouraging green motoring. This policy has seen Fleet Alliance reduce its CO2 emissions drastically in the past eight years.

‘Carbon emissions are falling markedly across our whole fleet’

The company was also awarded a ‘Green Apple’

award last year by not-for-profit environmental group, The Green Organisation, for ‘Environmental Best Practice for Carbon Reduction’ in recognition of its efforts in reducing carbon emissions. The three new vehicles are the Nissan Leaf five door

Acenta hatchback automatic which has zero carbon emissions, the Lexus CT200 hybrid and the top-selling Toyota Prius. For some time Fleet Alliance has been persuading clients of the importance of setting fleet policies that encourage the take-up of low carbon- emitting cars to capitalise on savings in tax, National Insurance and fuel costs.

As part of this, the company has provided two free-

to-use electric car charging points in the visitors’ car park at its new offices, Skypark, just outside Glasgow city centre. Skypark landlords have paid for the installation while

Fleet Alliance is paying the ongoing electricity charges. Fleet Alliance managing director Martin Brown said:

“We are very committed to pursuing a green agenda here at Fleet Alliance, and thought that one way of demonstrating that commitment would be to extend our company car policy for our own staff. “We are also are hugely encouraged that the advice

that we have been offering to our clients for the last two or three years has been increasingly heeded, as carbon emissions are falling markedly across our whole fleet.”

A lucky night New partnership offers vital support

for 1813 Club Members of the Chamber’s 1813 Club have learned the ins and outs of gambling after a special event laid on for them at the Genting Casino at Resorts World. More than 50 guests were

invited by fellow 1813 member Genting to experience the thrill of blackjack and roulette – but without losing a fortune. The guests were also able to enjoy social networking with each other. Chamber group account manager

Gary Birch said: “Genting, which is part of Resorts World, was keen to raise awareness among fellow 1813 members, and the occasion was also great for networking. “We aim to host more of these

special events for 1813 members as we move into 2017.”

Flying high: Richard Lane and one of the Air Ambulance Charity’s helicopter crews

24 CHAMBERLINK December 2016/January 2017

The largest air ambulance region in the UK, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, is set to fly high after entering into a new partnership with managed service provider EBC Group. The partnership will see the charity, which is

responsible for operating three air ambulance services covering six Midlands counties, introduce new state-of- the-art technology. The new IT infrastructure will be backed up and

hosted directly from EBC Group’s data centres and also includes a new disaster recovery solution, improved connectivity as well as a new telephony system. Jason Levy, fundraising and marketing director for

Midland Air Ambulance Charity said: “It is vitally important to the charity and our operational service that our communications and IT infrastructure is equipped to manage the increasing demand on our service. Selecting EBC Group as part of our long term

strategy will provide us with continuity, alongside the flexibility to meet our future needs.”
