Family-run firm opens the door to growth


Birmingham-based ironmongery experts Doorfit’s family ethos is paying solid dividends – with the company’s fastest growth in its 60-year plus history. The family-owned firm has seen turnover surge by


50 per cent since 2012 to nearly £8m, and joint managing directors Robert and Philip Neil say a stable staff is key to their success. The brothers are justifiably proud of the company’s


low turnover of employees – and say that a happy workforce makes for a successful working environment at Doorfit’s Heaton Street base. The company has grown from humble beginnings


more than six decades ago into one of the Midlands’ largest suppliers of architectural ironmongery, garage doors and sliding door gear, stocking 25,000 different products. Robert said: “We have grown significantly in the last


few years and a lot of that growth has happened post- recession, since 2012. It has been a very good period for us - we have had turnover of nearly £8 million this year. The recession was a tough period but we maintained similar staff levels throughout.” The firm, which has a current workforce of 53, owes

its origins and family atmosphere to the vision of the brothers’ father John, and Uncle George who first set up the business in 1953. “Our father is still chairman and Philip and I have


very complementary skill-sets – the family ethos works well for this company.”
