Business News Head for heights:

Lauren Hunt during her abseil at Park Regis (pic by Dan Harrison)

Sketch of city goes on display

Visitors to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery will be able to get a new perspective on the city as an intricate large-scale aerial sketch of the entire city of Birmingham has gone on display. The artwork is by ‘Sketch’, aka

Chamber challenge

Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce staff showed a head for heights and a need for speed to raise money for charity. A team from the Chamber took part in ‘Fright Or Flight’ – a challenge that involved abseiling down the Park Regis Birmingham and running up 16 flights of stairs back to the top. So far more than £500 has been raised for St Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham. Lauren Hunt, transatlantic business co-ordinator for BABC Midlands

and administrator for the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce, kicked off the Chamber team’s challenge by abseiling from the summit of the hotel on Broad Street. Marketing staff Katrina Cooke and Julie Ledesma then completed the dash to the top in two minutes eight seconds and two minutes 24 seconds respectively. And intrepid Carl Douglas, programme co-ordinator Business Venture, took on the entire challenge on his own – abseiling down before running back to the top in an impressive one minute and 33 seconds.

Intricate: Artist Carl Lavia and the cityscape sketch

The area depicted covers a

radius as far north as Newhall Street, as far east as Ashted Circus, as far south as Park Street and as far west as Hagley Road. Carl chose to include several not yet completed regeneration projects currently happening within the city. A 60x34cm size print is available

exclusively from the BMAG shop for £25. Profits from the sale will support

the work of Birmingham Museums Trust and the continuation of Carl’s project.
