Whitehills Regatta, Lifeboat presentation

Following the hugely successful Whitehills Regatta, Whitehills Harbour Commissioners presented a cheque for £1500 to the village's Ladies Lifeboat Guild, a record donation from the event. The annual regatta, held in

August, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016, with a total of 17 yachts entering the races on the day. In perfect conditions, 4 races - 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon - tested man and boy. The money raised came from the regatta entry fees, donations for the food provided and proceeds from the charity auction in the evening, where the fun really began. Prizes donated ranged from a haircut through horribly expensive alcohol to a flight in a private plane. World-famous yachtsman and author, Roger Taylor, who has used Whitehills as a

starting point for his Arctic voyages, and now considers it as his homeport, also donated a library of his books for the auction. Harbour Commissioner Jimmy Forbes, who along with fellow Commissioner and Vice Chair Willie Milne, organised the Regatta, paid tribute to those involved: "Our annual regatta has really grown

since we first held it in 2006, and we thank all the yachts and crew who regularly take part, no matter what the weather. Thanks also must go to the local businesses who donate prizes and help support us with food on the night. We make no profit from the day, all

proceeds go to charity, and we are delighted to help support our local Lifeboat in Macduff, via the Whitehills Ladies Lifeboat Guild, especially with the fantastic figure of £1500."
