he ninth edition of the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference (IWMC) came to a


close on Saturday 19 November with a fascinating tour of state of the art marinas in the Northern part of Holland, including Marina Volendam, Marina Enkhuizen and Marina Muiderzand. Presented by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), organised by the ICOMIA Marinas Group in partnership RAI Amsterdam and hosted by HISWA Holland Marine Industry Association, IWMC was held 17-19 November 2016 in Amsterdam, in conjunction with METSTRADE and its Marina & Yard Pavilion. Over 200 delegates from 39


different countries, including marina owners, operators, developers, consultants, service providers, government officials, equipment manufacturers, nautical tourism promoters and port and harbour operators spanning, attended IWMC - the theme of which was ‘future of marinas in a changing world’. The programme, developed by ICOMIA Marinas Group (IMG) and HISWA, included presentations, panel discussions and case studies from 40 world- class experts from leading global companies.


Keynote speaker was renowned trend watcher Adjiedj Bakas, who shared his distinct vision on the world in a very inspiring way. He presented the future trends of leisure around the world, mentioning the fact that the middle class will have less money but more time thanks to society robotisation. He also gave an analysis of the boating and marina market trends, underlining that people will look for affordable boats with low maintenance costs and will


often share them through sharing economy systems. Marinas will not only be used as parking lots, but will become places where you can share community lifestyle The plenary sessions focused on the current state of affairs in the worldwide marina industry, new opportunities in emerging markets, different approaches to marina management, and intersections between the public and private sectors. Whilst breakout sessions covered new
