Over its long history, Lougheed House was a family residence, a training centre for young women, a women’s military barracks and a blood donor clinic, before it sat unused until its restoration in 2000.

ougheed House is a living emblem of Canada’s colonial days. The sandstone mansion conjures up images of Calgary as it was 125 years ago. This is
Beaulieu, the home of Senator Sir James A. Lougheed; his wife, Lady Isabella Hardisty Lougheed; their six children and staff from 1891 to 1936. The house is now a national and a provincial Historic Site and Museum, located on the property’s original 2.8 acres in the Beltline of Calgary. James Alexander Lougheed was a relative newcomer to
Calgary when he built this house for his wife Isabella and their growing family on the treeless outskirts of town. In 1901 he purchased the eastern half of the property
