VOLUME 15 W ISSUE #4, 2016

ow, what an issue! Creating this issue has been an inter- esting and intense endeavour, but worth every minute. As a gardener and history lover, I was blown away by

how much our local pioneers have contributed to the horticultural industry.

I have to extend a special thank you to all of the organizations and people who assisted us with historical information, photos and stories. Dorothy Dobbie, Karl Thomsen, Joan Cohen, Ian Leatt and Rick Fritschy were instrumental in making this issue what it is. We as Canadians should be proud of all our accomplishments,

big and small, we have altered the landscape of our country, made ground-breaking discoveries and influenced horticulture worldwide. I’ve learned so much and hope that you, our readers, will too. All three of our souvenir issues (Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario) are beautiful tributes created to celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial and I encourage you to read them all.

We’re not done though! We are running a national contest with several categories for gardeners of all types to enter and celebrate Canada’s 150th, so please enter! See page 7 or visit localgardener. net for more details. Winners will be featured in our second souvenir issue out next fall. So stay tuned, readers, it’s going to be a great year!
