From the Executive Director First, our grateful thanks that all our Florida Fair’s came through the

hurricane season with minimal damage though it did cause some disrup- tion and minor damages. It was endearing to see our Florida Fair Family pull together to offer help and support to other Fairs that were possibly in harm’s way! It’s been a busy summer for the Federation. The Board is working

diligently to strengthen our partnerships with the agricultural community and have had numerous meetings with various ag organizations through- out the state. As we have held these meetings, it has truly hit me as to what a tremendous impact our Fairs have in our communities and what an integral part they play in educating the public about Florida’s agricul- tural industry. Can you believe it - Fall Fair season is here! Hope those Fairs that

have already finished had a great run and GOOD LUCK to those of you that are in your final planning stages! We know what a busy time this is for you! We had a fantastic Summer Workshop in Pensacola hosted by the

Pensacola Interstate Fair. They definitely rolled out the red carpet to make it a memorable event! The decorations and dinner were “over the top!” A special thanks to EMC Tickets and Reithoffer Shows for co-sponsoring the fabulous dinner in conjunction with the Pensacola Interstate Fair. If you haven’t been to Summer Workshop you should think about it for next year. It is a chance to really get to meet and talk to people from other Fairs in a very relaxed, informal atmosphere. We also had another great Fair trip – Fair Trip 2016!

It was the largest

group ever! Be sure to read the article on the Fair Trip in this issue! This year’s Annual Directory has been published and distributed. A

Attorney’s Corner “MINOR WAIVERS AND RELEASES” A recent change in the Florida Statutes concerning a minor and their parents ability to waive liability for a minor is

relevant to our Florida fairs. Specifically, Florida Statute 744.301(3) provides: (b) To be enforceable, a waiver or release executed under this subsection must, at a minimum, include the follow-

ing statement in uppercase type that is at least 5 points larger than, and clearly distinguishable from, the rest of the text of the waiver or release:

NOTICE TO THE MINOR CHILD’S NATURAL GUARDIAN

Lance Fuchs Foster & Fuchs, P.A. READ THIS FORM COMPLETELY AND CAREFULLY. YOU ARE AGREEING TO LET YOUR MINOR CHILD ENGAGE IN A PO-

TENTIALLY DANGEROUS ACTIVITY. YOU ARE AGREEING THAT, EVEN IF (name of released party or parties) USES REASONA- BLE CARE IN PROVIDING THIS ACTIVITY, THERE IS A CHANCE YOUR CHILD MAY BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BY PARTICIPATING IN THIS ACTIVITY BECAUSE THERE ARE CERTAIN DANGERS INHERENT IN THE ACTIVITY WHICH CANNOT BE AVOIDED OR ELIMINATED. BY SIGNING THIS FORM YOU ARE GIVING UP YOUR CHILD’S RIGHT AND YOUR RIGHT TO RECOVER FROM (name of released party or parties) IN A LAWSUIT FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, INCLUDING DEATH, TO YOUR CHILD OR ANY PROPERTY DAMAGE THAT RESULTS FROM THE RISKS THAT ARE A NATURAL PART OF THE ACTIVITY. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE TO SIGN THIS FORM, AND (name of released party or parties) HAS THE RIGHT TO REFUSE TO LET YOUR CHILD PARTICIPATE IF YOU DO NOT SIGN THIS FORM. Please review your waiver and release forms if it concerns parents signing for a minor child to see if your waiver or release complies with the above, and/or consult your attorney or insurance carrier to ensure you are in compliance.

special thanks to Doris Graska, News- letter Chairman and a past Federation President–she spent a tremendous amount of time editing the Directory. Thanks also to Rita DeMier and Andrea Simeone with the South Florida Fair for doing the layout for the cover with this year’s Photo Contest winners, to Bill Olson with the Greater Jacksonville Ag Fair for printing the membership cards, and Elaine Miller for all her work com- piling the memberships and drafting the document. The Directory wouldn’t have happened without help from all of them! Be sure to mark your calendars for the 2017 Convention – May 18 –

20th in Orlando! We will be at the Buena Vista Palace this year - it is a beautiful facility and it’s directly across the road from Disney Springs.
