Over the years many members have joined the band, but some have returned to live in the UK, and sadly, some have passed away. The original members are determined to keep the band together. These include Barry Waddington (ex pipe instructor), Drummer Brian Houston and leading Drummer Steve Attwood - Dawe, not forgetting John Wilson who has done so well with the piping section, while also doubling up as bookings secretary.

Hi All!

It's hard to believe that we are already into October. This year has just flown by. Approximately 10 years ago I met drummer Steve Attwood-Dawe. Steve has played in many bands since back then, including the Jon Summers "Cut Loose" band. At the time that I first met Steve, he told me of his aspirations to start a "Pipes and Drums" band. I have to admit that, at the time, I had my doubts as to whether there would be both venues or opportunities and demand here on the South Costa Blanca

for such a project..... I couldn't have been more wrong. From the formation of the Torrevieja Pipe Band in early 2007, it was exceptionally well received in the early days, and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

The band started with only eight members, some were experienced, while others were in the learning stages. I attended a St Andrews Night in Torrevieja's Virgin del Carmen Theatre in November 2007, and this night of Scottish Entertainment included the debut performance of the Torrevieja Pipe Band, who gave a sterling performance, which was so apparent by the audience reaction.

The band also have visiting pipers and drummers who travel over from the UK for the bigger events. This includes Pipe Major Lilian, who also gives instruction to budding pipers while she is here.

The success of the

Torrevieja Pipe Band since its inception back in 2007, is more than impressive. This October (14th

) they were invited by the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal to play at their opening in Benidorm. The very next night (15th

October), they

performed in Murcia for a "re-enactment event".

More gigs are set to follow until Christmas. Unfortunately, at this moment in time, the band are short of members in both the pipe and drum sections, and are looking for new recruits. If this appeals to you, whether you have experience or not (some experience is preferred, but not essential as tuition is provided) the pipe band rehearse Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am - 12.20pm at Hoggies Bar, San Luis, Torrevieja. John Wilson (bookings secretary) can be reached on 663 446 892. He will forward you to David Heaney (pipes) or Steve Attwood - Dawe (drums).

Check the local press to see forthcoming gigs for the Torrevieja Pipe Band, as they approach the 10th of their founding.
