PHARMACY2U ISSUE RESOLVED
Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) have offered further information to pharmacists in light of the Pharmacy2U leaflet distribution in Scotland.
The online pharmacy, which provides a home delivery repeat prescription service to patients in England, had produced marketing leaflets, which were distributed as magazine inserts. Unfortunately, Pharmacy2U do not have control over the distribution of the magazines which are nationally
available. As a result, patients in Scotland have been receiving these leaflets and have been presenting them in community pharmacies across Scotland, asking what this service is.
The distribution of these magazines finished a few weeks ago, and no similar campaigns are planned, so queries from patients in Scotland will diminish.
Pharmacy2U have offered apologies for any inconvenience caused.
TEVA COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF ACTAVIS GENERICS
Teva Pharmaceutical has completed its $40 billion acquisition of Actavis Generics, the generics arm of rival Allergan.
The Israeli multinational was already the world’s largest manufacturer of generic drugs and Allergan Generics was the third largest in the same market by sales, so this acquisition has given Teva a large market lead.
Teva CEO, Erez Vigodman, said the move was part of a wider plan to become one of the ‘most competitive,
fully integrated companies in the industry’.
‘We service as a company 250 million people daily in the world,’ Mr Vigodman said in a statement, pointing out that, following this deal, ‘one in six prescriptions in the US (will be) Teva, one in six in the UK, one in eight in Germany’.
In 2015, Teva had revenue of $19.6 billion, but, with this acquisition, Teva estimates that this figure will rise to at least $26.7 billion by 2019.

NO-BLAME REDRESS CONSULTATION
Scottish Government is proposing changes in the compensation arrangements for injuries resulting from clinical treatment. The aim is to end the blame culture around medical negligence claims, improve transparency across the NHS and to promote a culture of continuous learning. The consultation asks if it is correct to exclude all NHS independent contractors initially and if they should ever be included in the suggested arrangements in the future.
The NPA responded in detail to a previous consultation in 2012 which included community pharmacy in proposed claims procedures. The NPA at the time had discussions with Scottish Government on the low numbers, low cost and efficient compensation claim systems provided within community pharmacy.
In our response to the current consultation the NPA welcomed that Scottish Government is no longer considering initially including community pharmacy. We also stated that we believe if community pharmacy were ever to be included in the proposed system, the resolution of medical compensation claims would take significantly longer and be more complicated both for patients and pharmacists.
