heCollinCollegeDanceDepartmentwill host theAmerican CollegeDanceAssociation (ACDA) South-CentralConference fromMarch 2nd

-6th , 2017.ACDAis a non-profit organization for

students, teachers, and artists dedicated to scholarly engagement in dance. The organization began in 1973with the intent to “support and affirmdance in higher education through regional conferences, the adjudication process, and national festivals” (www.acda.dance).

ACDAis comprised of 13 regions, and the South-Central region includes colleges and universities fromTexas andNewMexico. In March 2017, 400 college and facultymemberswill convene at the CollinCollege SpringCreekCampus in Plano. The student partici- pants are fromall levels of higher education dance study: two year programs, university programs, and graduate programs.

While at the conference, studentswill takemaster classes fromcol- lege faculty and nationally-recognized guest artists. In addition, theywill performtheir own choreography, and/or that of a faculty member or guest artist, for adjudication. Threeworking artists, with nationally-recognized dance careers, serve as the adjudicators, and they are chargedwith viewing theworks and giving feedback on both the performance and the choreography. The adjudicators do not knowthe name of the school, the dancers, or the choreogra- pher, which helps themaddress eachwork objectively before select- ing the strongestworks to be featured in the gala concert. The CollinDanceEnsemble has earned a gala selection ten times, most recently forCollinDance Faculty TiffaneeArnold’s TheGrid in 2016.

Through this collaboration between theCollege and theDance Department,CollinCollegewill become the first two-year institu- tion to host this conference in the South-Central region. After par- ticipating inACDAfor 18 years, theDanceDepartment is excited to host the conference and encourageCollinCollege dance students to connectwith university dance programs and pursue transfer oppor- tunities.
