DCNT Leaps Ahead with New Strategic Plan

In addition, theMission and Vision statements were revised and Values statements were added. “Past strategic plans have focusedmore on the pro- grams/services/events aspects of the organization.” said Penelope Logan Furry, Chair of the Strategic Planning commit- tee. “This plan covers the holistic organization to ensure that we focus on what is needed to support the entire organization going forward.”

One of the revelations in developing the new plan was that the organization is considered amid-sized arts organization. This newperspective challenges the organization to consider how to effectively operate in light of its larger size. To ensure a success- ful transition, CNMConnect non-profitmanagement consult- ing has been brought in to work with the organization on options to improve operations procedures, present a revised governancemodel, and provide recommendations tomature the bylaws, and policies and procedures.


Some specific outcomes areas of the plan will include providing more value for themembership with at least twomember focused activities a year, improvingmarketing for the overall organization, implementing a revised governancemodel, offer-

ing Board development opportunities, and implementing new marketing, technology, and fund development plans. Committeemembers who worked on the plan included April Berry, Patty Harrington Delaney, Gayle Halperin, Sally Hansen, Tracy Jordan, and staffmembers PamDeslorieux and Elizabeth Van Vleck.


To reinforce the organization’s focus on the strategic plan, a new Executive Committee position has been created, the Vice President of Strategic Planning. Penelope Logan Furry will assume this position to continue the work started with the strategic planning committee. This position will work with CNMConnect with their work with the organization and with committees to ensure the coordination between the organiza- tion’s activities and the strategic plan.


Tracy Jordan, DCNT President-Elect says, “Our new strategic plan for Dance Council of North Texas is a vision for the new century and looking ahead to the future to help us identify how best to serve the dance community and to promote this unique- ly dynamic art form.We are providing our legacy of supporting and promoting dance over the last 40 years. I’mexcited about developing opportunities for young dancers to put their best foot forward as theymake their contribution to dance and to North Texas.”
