Representation Pharmacist blog by Mairead Conlon
W
ell the last couple of months have really flown by!
I have been working on a two major projects recently.
Firstly, alongside Sharon McEvoy and Alison Guy, I have been developing a brand new and exciting pre-registration training programme.
I have taken feedback from several tutors and students who use both our programme and others, and now feel that the UCA can offer the most comprehensive training package available in NI.
The UCA course for 16/17 will cover clinical learning and exam focus comprehensively, whilst also delivering a lot of practical learning to develop our new pharmacists
into well rounded professionals.
Have a look at our brochure arriving into your pharmacy and if you require any more information, please get in touch.
Both Sharon and I are really looking forward to delivering the training and to working closely with the incoming pre-reg students.
My second big piece of work has been well advertised in PiF magazine already! I have been busy out on the road delivering the ‘Boost your Professional Profile’ seminars. During July I will collate all feedback from the pharmacists who have attended and will share our learnings with you when these sessions have all been delivered. Any pharmacists wishing to become members of the Pharmacist Representation Group, our UCA Associate membership- please get in
touch for more details.
I also had the pleasure of attending the IPU Conference in Dublin. I listened to a number of speakers, including Health Minister Leo Vardakar who had such positivity about the work that community pharmacy undertakes. He used this platform to launch the new Minor Ailments scheme that day. Community Pharmacy is progressing well there and our colleagues in the South have quite a bit of forward momentum in increasing their place on the Health agenda there.
Last week, I attended a workshop detailing the newly restructured government departments at Stormont. Hopefully we will soon have a meeting scheduled with our new Health Minister, Michelle O’Neill to discuss the future of Community Pharmacy in Northern Ireland.
I have been out and about with a few of you recently and hope to do a lot more pharmacy visits over the coming months.
Let’s hope we have a great summer of weather and health and I look forward to seeing you soon.
