Development set

for the next stage Construction of the latest extension to Kingswood Lakeside in Cannock is set to start. Midlands-based developer Opus Land has

been given the green light for site clearance to commence in preparation for a new 100,000 sq.ft industrial and commercial work space. The site at Kingswood Lakeside has already

been pre-let to a local catering distributor. Opus Land’s joint managing director, Victoria

Smith, said: “Having recently delivered the Veolia HQ and APC regional distribution hub at Kingswood Lakeside, we are particularly pleased to be back in the area, helping create space for the region’s growing businesses and economy.” The scheme requires a complex schedule of

works in order to overcome challenging ground conditions, linked to the site’s history as a coal mining area. Staffordshire County Council’s economy

leader Mark Winnington said: “This is good news for Cannock and for Staffordshire as we’re retaining a big company and enabling it to expand, with even more jobs set to be created.”

Job hunters seek out advice at successful fair

More than 350 jobseekers flocked to the jobs fair held at Cannock Chase Council’s Civic Centre. Around 40 exhibitors and local organisations

attended the event, including Jaguar Land Rover and Gestamp. As well as organisations with vacancies, there

were experts on hand to give information and advice on interview techniques and CV writing. Cllr Gordon Alcott, portfolio leader for

Economic Development and Planning, said: “The jobs fair was a resounding success; the room was bursting at the seams with over 350 people looking for job opportunities, help and advice. “We have received a lot of positive feedback

with 81 per cent of people attending saying it was a useful event and found it beneficial to talk to employers face to face. “I would like to thank the hard work of Officers

and our partners Job Centre Plus, Staffordshire County Council and Chase Chamber of Commerce in making this event such a success.”
