Airline is flying high on profits

Flybe, the largest operator out of Birmingham Airport, has soared back into the black after five consecutive years of losses. The airline returned to profit for

the first time since its market flotation in 2010. The airline has reported

adjusted profit before tax of £5.5m compared to a loss before tax of £25.4m in 2014/15; and a reported profit after tax of £6.8m compared to loss after tax of £35.7m in 2014/15. Figures show that passenger

volumes grew by six per cent across an expanded route network, returning the airline to revenue growth despite a difficult trading environment. Flybe CEO Saad Hammad said:

“This year was the second full year of our three-year transformation plan and our performance has been very encouraging. We delivered top-line growth in a difficult revenue environment, expanding our network and carrying more passengers than last year. “As a result of all the action we

have taken, Flybe is now a much more resilient business and well positioned for profitable growth.”

A healthy acquisition for BHSF

BHSF, the Birmingham-based health and wellbeing group, has acquired the Newhall Medical Practice Limited – the deal being the seventh such purchase since 2012 as BHSF seeks to grow its occupational health division to provide nationwide coverage.

‘We are very pleased to have acquired such a successful business’

The company, which provides cover for 400,000 people under its health and personal accident insurances, traces its roots back to the formation of the Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund in 1873. Client organisations include Mondeléz International, Jaguar Land Rover, Birmingham City Council and Home Retail Group. Newhall provides high-quality occupational health

and other medical services and it also has a private GP service and a travel clinic at its premises in Cornwall Buildings, Newhall Street, Birmingham. Newhall is headed by its founder, Dr Bryan Fehilly, who will be remaining with the business. BHSF group chief executive Peter Maskell said: “We

are very pleased to have acquired such a successful business which will strengthen our occupational health (OH) proposition and give us greater presence in the
