Kutchenhaus EVER DREAMT OF OWNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
For Dave Cowling, becoming a Kutchenhaus franchisee was the perfect fit...
Kutchenhaus sales director Philip Croak on why being a strong, dynamic and flexible business makes it the perfect retail franchise partner...
“We are able to adjust to today’s varying markets and, as such, we have exciting opportunities for the correct partners all over the UK. We are looking for people who want to get on board with a successful brand with a tried and tested infrastructure.
I have worked in the exclusive premium end of the kitchen business for over 20 years, but I had always strongly felt that there was a big gap in the market place for kitchens that were superior in quality to lower end flat-pack and yet substantially more affordable than bespoke handmade.
So, I decided to do something about it and take the plunge – I was going to open a kitchen retail business that served that gap in the market.
As I would be financing this personally, I spent nearly two years researching several German manufacturers but it soon became clear that Kutchenhaus was the obvious choice.
Apart from the attractive start-up costs, Kutchenhaus is part of Nobilia - the largest kitchen manufacturer in the world - and it offers 10 different price ranges that serve 80% of the market. It was tailor made to fill exactly the gap that I had identified as key to our business.

The process between that decision and opening the showroom couldn’t have been easier. From the initial enquiry, Kutchenhaus management was available and involved in all aspects of the setup. This included working together to locate the right showroom as well as incredibly useful adviceon designing the layout and displays in a way that showed off the full range of furniture available.
We spent time in the flagship Manchester showroom learning how the

sales processes,CAD system and custom CRM system worked and, last but not least, we were flown out to Germany to see the very impressive Nobilia factory and given even more training on the product and processes. All this help and guidance was absolutely invaluable and it doesn’t stop when the showroom doors open for the first time. One of the main attractions of becoming a Kutchenhaus franchisee is that it feels like being part of a much bigger family with support, training and advice from the other showrooms.
You can also rely on Kutchenhaus’ 10 years of experience combined with the reassurance of buying direct from Nobilia. There is also a common website and advertising strategy which means I get enquiries from all over the South. The Kutchenhaus Logistics team is also great at handling the product and difficult deliveries.
A But does it work as a business?
After only one year of trading, our showroom in Brentwood is going from strength to strength, employing three fulltime designers and a showroom manager. This success has prompted the forthcoming opening of a second showroom in Farnborough, proof in itself that the Kutchenhaus franchise is a winning formula. In fact, we’re looking for sales designers, lead takers and product advisors for the Farnborough and Brentwood showrooms.

“We are owned and supplied by Nobilia, the largest kitchen manufacturer in the world, so with that comes economies of scale. As such we can offer extremely competitive pricing not just on furniture but appliances as well from suppliers like BSH, Miele, CDA, Reginox and Sensio among others. “Our experience means we have perfected our design and sales techniques and provide full training. Our ranges include a total of 84 fronts, 18 carcases over 100 handle choices, not to mention hundreds of different units and mechanisms. We are confident we cover 80% of the market regardless of size or budget. “Our head office provides full support for showrooms, helping with logistics, technical, IT infrastructure, and ordering. They liaise with Nobilia and other suppliers on their behalf to ensure that they and their customers get exactly what they want.
“This is backed up with a custom-built CRM system that monitors the progress of every order that goes through, even automating contact with the customer so you don’t have to.
“If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of then get in touch with us!”
