CALIFORNIA- INSPIRED BEACHY TEXTURE

Whatever the weather chooses to do, there’s no better time than the summer months to add a California-inspired beachy texture to your style. It’s a look that works for most hair types. Here’s my top styling tips…

To add a gentle wave to naturally straight hair, prep dried hair with mousse (or any other styler that will add ‘guts’), then roughly divide into two or three sections. Twist each tightly and secure at the roots with a sectioning clip. Use the heat from your hairdryer to ‘set’, then unravel once cool, scrunching in a little styling cream to finish.

Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Grunge Glamour Tousle Salt Spray is my go-to product for beachy hair. It gives your style that gorgeous tousled effect; try spritzing into hair then twisting into a bun; once unravelled, hair will be beautifully waved with an on-trend matte finish. Alternatively, for rippling waves overnight, you can’t go wrong with a classic braiding technique. You’ll get better results if hair is slightly damp to begin with; divide roughly into two sections, apply a styling cream or spray, then plait neatly. Secure with no-snag bands then remove the following morning for mermaid-esque texture.

It’s important that the texture doesn’t look too uniform and a heated styling wand is ideal for adding shape where you want it. Leave the roots of the hair flat and simply wrap from the mid- sections down, holding for a few seconds before releasing. I find this technique works particularly well on long bobs, a la Caroline Flack and Taylor Swift.
