Now, whilst the Queen’s Cup may be over, the high-goal polo season in the UK is most definitely not, with an exciting month of high-goal polo in July! The best players in the world now turn their attention to Surrey and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup played at Cowdray Park Polo Club in Midhurst for the British Open Polo Championship. This tournament is what Wimbledon is to tennis and Silverstone to Formula 1, so finals day on Sunday 17th July is definitely not a date to be missed – whether a polo aficionado or new to the sport!

You can pack a picnic and sit pitch-side to get close to the action of one of the fastest ball sports in the world, as well as enjoying a range of boutique shops in the shopping village, delicious food stalls and the champagne bar!

It was newcomers to the Queen’s Cup, La Indiana that put an end to those hopes in the semi-finals, beating King Power Foxes by a single goal. La Indiana then went on to play Dubai in the final, who have won the Queen’s Cup five times. After a tough fought match, the two teams were tied at 11-11 with only seconds left in the final chukka. An unfortunate penalty right before the final bell allowed Dubai to take the lead 12-11 and claim the win.

Dubai’s star player, and God amongst men in his sport, Adolfo Cambiaso now extends his record for the most wins of this trophy having won it nine times – rather appropriate on the Queen’s 90th year! The action wasn’t just confined to the polo pitch! A host of celebrities and distinguished guests attended the event, including Sienna Miller and new couple Millie Mackintosh and Hugo Taylor.

The UK high-goal polo season then draws to a close with The Royal Salute Coronation Cup the following weekend on Saturday 23rd July at Guard’s Polo Club in Windsor. This annual polo spectacular showcases an England test match, where this year the team will face a competitive Rest of the World Commonwealth side and the boys will have to work hard to keep a hold of the impressive Coronation Cup trophy! This world-class day is definitely one of the stand-out social events of the summer and once again most definitely a date for the calendar not to be missed!

So get those summer dresses and stylish chinos ready, pack up the picnic hamper, mix up that jug of Pimm’s and this July get yourself down to see some of the best polo in the world! And I will see you there!
