WINE

Chateau Ste Michelle Merlot Coumbia Valley, 2013

Hazlitt Red Cat Finger Lakes Red Wine

This red blend from New York is different,

I will say that. It’s light and fruity and sweet. Very sweet. A bit too sweet for my personal taste. It tastes sweeter than grape soda. That said, I saw several positive reviews online. It’s all personal tastes anyway, but as for me, I’m leaving the Cat outside. He’s banned from in- side my house. Two Stars

When my very generous step-son showed

up at my home last Sunday with two bottles of wine as a house warming gift for my new digs, I was excited to try a couple of new brands. Now, usually, I am a chardonnay man by choice, but lately I have been attempting to expand my horizons, trying various and sundry whites and reds. You do that if you are going to pen a wine review column! Ben said that this was a good one, and he was right. This wine is extremely rich, the nose is

amazing with aromas of black cherry, plum, leather, cocoa, and spice. On the pallet, it presents layers of rich dark

red fruit flavors and a long, smooth, sweet finish. And because it is aged for a minimum of ten months in barrells, it has oakey hints that I personally love so much. Another fact I discovered upon researching

this excellent bottle is that the winemaker adds in 11 % Syrah, which, as Emeril would say, “kicks it up a notch!” Plush, fruit forward, and just plain tastey, I

would recommend this as one of the finest everyday wines you will find.
