Missouri called, Otis.

I saw Otis, now Otis opened for Wet Willie in Macon and it blew my ever- lovin’ mind. I know you played on their album. Yeah, me and David Barreck produced… Let’s see… they’ve opened up for us in Maryville, Tennessee, last year. They’ve opened up for us in Macon, Georgia. They’ve opened up for us two or three times, and matter of fact, they just opened up for Blackberry Smoke here in Glasgo.

When I saw ‘em I was so impressed I talked to the singer afterward. They kind of reminded me of Gov’t Mule, kind of reminded me of Warren a little bit. Then I got on Facebook after that, to contact them, to tell them that I thought their band was a monster and I really do. I really think that they could go far. Well, I do too. Well, you know, the funny thing is I’ve known those kids forever and it’s just like Blackstone Cherry. You know, you see something in this group of kids... Richard saw it in Blackstone Cherry, and I saw it in these boys. And the funny thing is Billy Gib- bons sees the same thing in Otis, and we’ve been talking about it, I don’t know when it’ll happen. We’ve talked about going in the stu- dio together with them and maybe producing something on ‘em. I don’t know…

Yeah, that’s be great. They’re very, very talented kids and matter of fact, I was with them this past Sunday, mixing a couple of tracks we did at Muscle Shoals last Summer. They’ve got some more miles to put in as every band does.

They’re still young. And I think you’ll see some really good things come out of them.

When I heard Otis was opening for Jimmy Hall and them in Macon I thought it was Otis Redding III. (Laughs) Imagine my surprise. Well, the funny thing is how we came up with that name. I give credit to Dean Smith. There was a band back in Louisville around the 60s called Otis and we always liked that name - Otis, and of course, you know, the singer passed on. Denny Lyle. Actually Denny Lyle’s solo album was re-released on a bigger label, and if you go out and look up Denny Lyle... Fat Possum just put it out, actually. It’s really been getting amazing reviews. But yeah, he had a band called Otis out of Louisville. We just basically revived the name, and we’ve been spoon-feeding these kids for a long time, you know -“listen to this,” “listen to this…” and they’re kind of taking the Southern Blues thing and morphing into what they do.

If I was doing marketing for them, I would say, “Yeah, we decided to name it after the drunk guy on the ‘Andy Grif- fith Show.’” (Both laugh) I think you’re right. Greg laughs. I’ll tell ‘em that, matter of fact, I’ve got to talk to them later this week so…

Alright Greg, man, well thanks for doing this. I appreciate it. You’ve got it man, it’s always great to catch up with you, Michael.

Yeah, me too. I enjoy talking to you quite a bit. Thank you! Thank you very much! God Bless each and every one of you! Keep the Faith! Rock On man! •
