Windows 10 - Make Your Mind Up Time , Microsoft will stop offering free Windows
On July 29th
10 upgrades to current Windows users and the price will jump to $120 (approx £85). As a result, they’re stepping up their campaign to get you to upgrade.
Microsoft has been pushy on the Windows 10
upgrade. They recently changed the update from being “optional” to “recommended”. On a Windows machine, this mean it will be downloaded and installed unless a user specifically says not to. Many people, reasonably, feel railroaded into an upgrade they don’t necessarily want. Some are switching off Windows Updates altogether not a good idea as this means you will not get any of the security updates.
How Do I Get Windows 10 Off My Computer? Look for a small link in the popup that says “Click here to reschedule or cancel.” It’ll be right below the scheduled installation time and date. Click cancel. If you download the upgrade by accident or just spend a few days with it and don’t like it, you can go back to Windows 7 for 28 days. Just go to settings >update and security> Recovery>Go Back to Windows 7.
Should I Upgrade? Whether or not you should upgrade to Windows 10
depends on a few factors. The first is your computer. If you can run Windows 7, you can generally run Windows 10 but if it’s old, it may slow it down. If your computer is a work device, it’s worth checking that all your software is compatible with Windows 10. Long term, however, remember that an upgrade is eventually going to be a good idea. No matter how popular a version of Windows is, Microsoft will stop offering security upgrades eventually. You’ll just be delaying the inevitable for a few years. Beyond that, as an Operating System, it’s OK. It’s got its quirks and annoyances, but overall, it’s stable and if you’ve used Windows in the past, it’s pretty much the same thing with a few extra pieces bolted on. Some
people quite like it!
Now is the time to give it a go whilst the upgrade is still free. Remember, if you don’t like it, you can revert back to Windows 7 anytime within the first 28 days. For those who don’t want it, you can take solace in the fact that you won’t have to worry about it after the end of July!
