Tashi Lhunpo is one of the most important monasteries in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, now re-established in exile in India. A chance to learn more about an ancient, endangered culture.


PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP Sat 30 July @ 5 – 6.30pm In an interactive workshop, the Tibetan monks from Tashi Lhunpo introduce details of the unique costumes worn in the dances of the Gutor Festival at Tibetan New Year, and invite you to learn a few of the steps. A demonstration and explanation of Taksel, the art of dialectical debate and teaching some of the intricate mudras (hand gestures) from Tantric prayer gives an insight into monastic life.


TIBETAN MONKS -’THE POWER OF COMPASSION’


PERFORMANCE Sat 30 July @ 7.30pm Chant, mantras, music and dance by Tibetan Monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery: a magical window on to a world of reincarnation and Buddhist mysticism which has inspired audiences in theatres and festivals throughout Europe. From the contemplative, mesmerising chant of Buddhist texts to swirling costumed masked dances accompanied by ancient Tantric musical instruments including horns made from human leg bones, skull-drums, cymbals, bells and with the shattering sound of the dungchen (long horns), the Monks evoke the atmosphere of sacred Tibet: an experience of an ancient culture accessible to all, with introductory explanations offering additional insight into this endangered world.


PATSY CLINE & FRIENDS Tribute Concert to Patsy Cline – Hank Williams – Jim Reeves Thurs 04 Aug @ 7.30pm Sue Lowry with her powerful rendition of Crazy, Sweet Dreams & I Fall to Pieces will take you back to the Honky Tonk days of pure Country Music. Joining Sue – Marc Robinson, will pay tribute to the Granddaddy of Country Music, Hank Williams with songs… Howlin’ at the Moon, I saw the Light, and Rutti Tutti. Lee Davidge performs a sensitive tribute to Jim Reeves with his authentic costume and iconic mesmerizing voice , songs will include … Welcome to my World , Distant Drums, and the song everyone knows – a song everyone can join in with, Bimbo!


ARTITUDE – ART CLASSES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE Mon 01 Aug & Mon 08 Aug @ 10 – Midday. Come and have fun, get creative and create art to be proud of. To include a mixed media workshop with an underwater theme and print making looking at nature.
