engine or, as on my test car, the 180 hp 2.0 litre Blue HDi diesel, fitted with the optional 6 speed auto gearbox. This is a superb engine, smooth, fluid and responsive. The 0-60 mph time is 8.4 seconds, top speed 137 mph, and fuel economy an outstanding 70.6 mph combined. And road tax is just £20 a year due to emissions of just 103g/km. Visually more sleek than the previous 308, the
latest version has more subtle, more elegant styling and with its quality cabin and fine driving dynamics exudes a lot of appeal. The 308 features Peugeot’s odd penchant for a small
steering wheel and raised dial console which take a little getting used to. Most of the controls are via a 9.7 inch central infotainment touchscreen which also takes a little time to fathom but is effective once you understand it. underway, the 308 GT, priced at £26,445, is zesty without losing its sense of refinement. steering, gearbox and accelerator, and turns the dials from white to red! The GT also has larger 18 inch alloys and lowered suspension. The result is a car which is delightful to drive. It is beautifully balanced, has outstanding grip and composure and still retains decent ride quality. The only slight downside for the 308 - rear passenger space is tighter than in main rivals, a result of Peugeot enlarging the boot, which is now 470 litres, or 1,185 with the seats folded. The rear passenger doors are also narrow which means access needs a tad more agility. Standard kit is excellent and includes sat nav, DAB
radio, Bluetooth, keyless entry and push-button start, cruise control, collision alert and emergency collision braking.
