Next Stop: The Beaches of Southern Delaware


As we bid adieux to Atlantic City, Southern Delaware awaits. Recognizing the impor- tance of meetings, retreats and events, Southern Delaware Tourism, the conven- tion and visitors bureau for Sussex County, DE, kicked off the 2016 season with a special incentive, having reached out to regional businesses and organizations by offering a $300 for 30 incentive to meet stress free in a place that’s tax free.


This program, which began April 1, con- cludes June 30.Any group that holds their meeting, conference or retreat in Sussex County and books 30 or more hotel room nights for a single event will receive a $300 rebate from the tourism office upon proof of payment at time of stay. Qualifying eventsmay take place any time as long as a hotel contract is signed by June 30,2016.


To introduce the incentive, Southern Delaware Tourism hosted a business expo at


the Delaware State Chamber of 16 May  June 2016


Commerce office in Wilmington and another at Clarion Hotel in New Castle.


Representatives from numerous organiza- tions in the Greater Wilmington area had the opportunity to meet with Southern Delaware Tourism members/partners, including: The Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center; Fairfield Inn and Suites, Rehoboth Beach; Bethany Beach Ocean Suites; The Seaford Historical Society, which represents The Ross Mansion and Plantation; Sleep Inn and Suites in Lewes; and Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach. Partners also generously con- tributed door prizes, which included overnight stays,meals and more.


“This incentive is designed to reinforce and add to the advantages of groups traveling to and meeting in Sussex County,” says Scott Thomas, executive director for Southern Delaware Tourism. “We’re an ideal location for smaller meetings, retreats and SMERF


The Culinary Coast


Who knew? Southern Delaware not only is renowned for its breathtaking beaches, it is a favorite stop for foodies, too. Trademarked “Southern Delaware’s Culinary Coast,” it is a mecca of extraor- dinary restaurants, world-class chefs and an international array of gourmet experiences.


“First-time visitors are surprised by the bounty of amazing food choices,” notes Scott Thomas of Southern Delaware Tourism. “We hold frequent wine presentations and special food-related events. Any kind of cuisine anyone could possibly desire - we have it. From sea bass to bagels, tamales to pasta, steak to pastry, everything is delicious.”
