Meeting Industry Professionals Choose Atlantic City

The success of Atlantic City as a desti- nation for meetings, special events and conventions is reinforced by two recent bookings. Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and host city part- ners Meet AC and Caesars Entertain- ment will welcome MPI’s World Education Congress (June 11-14, 2016) at the new Waterfront Conference Center at Harrah’s Atlantic City.

Features of event, expected to attract 2,500 attendees, include an opening night celebration of food from 20 local restaurants, an official World Series of Poker satellite tournament,a fundraiser and more.

In addition, the Trade Show News Network (TSNN) will hold its seventh annualTSNNAwards to recognize trade show excellence at the Atlantic City Convention Center in October of 2016. “We are very excited to bring the 2016 TSNN Awards to Atlantic City,” says RachelWimberly,TSNN president.

“Atlantic City has a really exciting con- vention center/hotel package, aswell as incredible restaurants and entertain- ment options that will be a real delight for attendees.”

Tropicana Atlantic City is another AC property that is truly committed to bringing meetings and attracting tourism to the region. In 2015, it under- went a $50 million renovation that included a spectacular Multimedia Light and Sound Show, the addition of The AtlantiCare LifeCenter Fitness facil- ity, and included renovations to its North Tower hotel rooms and casino.

This year, Tropicana continues its pledge to deliver more fun, value and variety to its hotel and resort. Another $40 million is dedicated to the renova- tions of 500 Havana Tower hotel rooms and the South Tower casino, cosmetic upgrades to Jade Palace, its Asian gam- ing room, and all new shows at the boardwalk-based Multimedia Light and Sound Show.

“With more than 2,100 rooms and 120,000-square feet of meeting and event space, Tropicana is attractive for groups of all types, especially corpo- rate, state and regional associations,” says JimZiereis, assistant vice president hotels, Tropicana Casino and Resort. “We have received great feedback from corporate meeting planners seeking exceptional room product. With having such greatmeeting and event space we are able to handle groups with sizes of 10 people all the way up to 2,000 atten- dees.”

“The 2,000-seat Showroom at Trop- icana, which is used for headliner entertainers, also is an incredible venue for larger general sessions or new prod- uct introductions,” he continues. “We hosted over 500 meeting groups last year. While repeat business is extremely strong, our new group business is rapid- ly increasing aswe continue to improve Tropicana with the commitment of major renovations.”

Ziereis notes that the key to Tropicana’s success is bringing decisionmakers on- site to observe how magnificent the

property is for hosting meetings and conventions. “There are so many spe- cial features to our property that we know they will be hooked if we show them around. Although we are a large resort with numerous offerings,we real- ly enjoy customizing the group experi- ence based on the organization’s objec- tives. Our aim is for meeting planners and attendees to leave with the sense that their group was the only one we were attending to.That all starts with a professional and courteous staff throughout the building.”

Tropicana’s midweek group business in 2015 exceeded the prior year by over 16 percent in terms of occupied room nights.“We are happy to be on pace for an even greater 2016,” declares Ziereis. “With casino gross gaming having declined in the city due to increased casino supply in nearby jurisdictions, we have had the opportunity to fine- tune the non-gaming amenities on property, which is more important to group meetings.”

Among the recent Tropicana-hosted events was The Maxwell Football Club Gala and Awards with over 1,000 atten- dees. It included a black-tie reception opening in the ballroom that was fol- lowed by an awards presentation held in the showroom. The Top of the Trop lounge is another often booked venue for various evening group receptions. Beach, boardwalk and ocean views from this top-floor lounge are breath- taking.

Tropicana’s Boogie Nights dance club is dedicated to returning to the magic of ‘70s and ‘80s every Friday and Saturday night. Guests gather to party with Mr. Boogie, Roller Girl,Hula Hoop Girl and other celebrity impersonators. They are in awe when they first see the lighted dance floor and giant disco ball. It is no surprise that SJMagazine voted Boogie Nights the Best Nightclub at the Jersey Shore.
