Pharmacist of the Future

LARA SEYMOUR Robert Gordon University

R

obert Gordon University School of Pharmacy student Lara Seymour was awarded the

Pharmacist of the Future title.

Whilst law and ethics are already a mainstream part of the pharmacy education agenda, Lara foresaw the potential to engage more students with ethical issues in pharmacy to increase awareness and improve critical thinking with the overall aim of producing a higher standard of pharmacists in the future.

Lara was instrumental in setting up the Pharmacy Law and Ethics Group, which aims to produce a high quality of pharmacists in the future with a focus on improving communication, team working and patient safety. Creating the group has enabled Lara to become involved with how the

MPharm course is taught at RGU. This group is entirely student-led and it has allowed her to develop key leadership skills, a key factor for the judging panel when examining the nominees in this category.

Accepting her award, Lara commented, “I feel amazing. This is five years of hard work in the making. I believe it is great for me personally to be recognised, but also for my team within the Pharmacy Law and Ethics Group who have supported me as we move into the future and in this awards process.”

Head of School of Pharmacy & Life Sciences at Robert Gordon University, Professor Donald Cairns said, “These awards are are not only hugely important to the profession but the Pharmacist of the Future category in

particular. It is gratifying for all to know that as we age there will be fantastic pharmacists of the future, such as Lara, there to look after us.”

Dr Anne Boyter, Director of Teaching, University of Strathclyde added, “I am so delighted for Lara. This is huge recognition of what our students do and their work as undergraduates and not just as students.”
