By Keith Nicol
Easter is early this year and many local towns and cities have parades through the streets on this public holiday including: Pilar de la Horadada: Rojales: Cartagena: Los Montesinos: Orihuela: Guardamar del Segura: Catral: Alicante: Dolores: Crevillente: Santa Pola and Torrevieja. Torrevieja is just one of the local cities that celebrate the Easter Processions with style. The event is classified as of National Interest and is supported by the Costa Blanca Tourism Board. The main parades take place on Monday 21st, starting at 10pm and on Good Friday starting at 8pm, although there are parades and activities every day.
In Torrevieja, once again the 100+ members of the International Cofradia Of Jesus In The Garden Of Olives will be taking part. This prestigious group has been followed by the Media across the Spanish speaking world and has been much admired and respected by most of its Spanish counterparts since its inception in 2005. With thousands of Spanish and many other Nationalities filling the streets of Torrevieja for these splendid processions the atmosphere is something to behold for those who are lucky enough to be a part of this moving Spanish Tradition.

A little further down the coast the Pirates have come ashore in Los Alcazares for the annual Incursiones Berberiscas. They’ll be in town from the 24th to the 27th March 2016. This is the 17th year the pirates will be opening their medieval market, putting on shows, displays and theatrical reenactments, plus there will be a pirate encampment, falconry displays, donkey rides and of course, many people with peg legs, patches over one eye and lot of ‘Oh Ares’, to be heard. Take yourself back to the days of Long John Silver and have some fun.
Torrevieja has a brand new film and cultural club. Thanks to a collaboration with Cines IMF in Torrevieja, located beside Habaneras Shopping Centre in the Ozone Centre, every week a brand new film shows, once a night, for all seven nights, in English language with Spanish subtitles, called: V.O.S.E. No need for headphones. It costs 5€ on Monday and Wednesday and 7€ every other night and Fiestas. However film club members can visit on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 5.00€ and after you’ve seen ten films, the 11th is free. Plus many other benefits from joining the club. Everyone can find out what is showing each week by sending an email to:
film@admitone.club with the words ‘Opt In’ on the subject line. It costs just 20€ to join per person, 30€ a couple or 5€ for youths, students and Jove Carnet holders. Check out
