Suffering from panic attacks, depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD or finding anger hard to control? Modern Psychological Treatment can help you.

Psychological treatments and therapy still are very mystical for many people. Fortunately, modern approaches are transparent and guarantee improvement.

Even in a modern society, the myth about psychotherapy is still alive and many people still have an idea of something mysterious when they think about the topic. Also, comments like “the sufferers should just pull themselves together” and “they don’t need any brainwashing” are very typical. This attitude often prevents the sufferers getting the right treatment. They end up receiving psychotropic medication, full of side effects, or even doing nothing and getting worse every day. For the professionals in the mental health sector this is very sad, as we do know that there is help. According to recent investigation, a third of the patients in a general doctors practice actually would get more appropriate help by psychological treatment than by prescribed medicine. Modern psychological treatments help you to get back control, self esteem and improvement of your mental balance.

How does this work then? First of all, in modern psychological treatments, transparency is very important. There are no hidden tricks or strange paintings to be done. “This makes sense!” or “That sounds reasonable!” are comments that I often hear in my office. Clearing the fog of mental unbalance by explaining the details of an emotional reaction helps to convince the client that it is possible to gain back quality of life. In a next step, the client learns how to self observe and analyse the irrationalities of some thinking patterns and how they influence mood and/or behaviour. This needs a deep conviction, to be obtained by exercises and practise of questioning and substituting these irrational beliefs, in order to assess problematic situations in the future more appropriately. The anxious person learns not to worry permanently about the past and the future, but to live in the present. The depressed find the exit out of mental darkness by breaking unhelpful behaviour and negative thinking patterns. Panic attacks do not scare anymore, once the psychological mechanism is detected. Inappropriate anger can be identified and does not lead into unwanted behaviour anymore. Obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviour can be analysed and won’t hinder enjoyment of life anymore.
