want the ticket or not was the less than cordial response from the surly rail ticket seller. At Havant bus station I board the bus for a one way bus ride onto Hayling….for this I am charged £4.36 … when I question the price, saying a couple of years ago the fare was £2.50, I am met with the reply that the “price has gone up ennit”. From Hayling my next port of call is Brighton to visit the daughter and to celebrate her birthday …Now the pound shops in Brighton are wonderful, and Brighton would be wonderful as would anywhere in England if you could live in a pound shop. Now back at home, I am reflecting on the fact that in my early years my mortgage loan equated to about four times the annual salary give or take …now in England the mortgage loan costs about 10 to 12 times the average salary and a deposit of some £40,000 is required. How are people supposed to get on the cherished housing ladder. Something has to give in England or does it? How long can a society survive where the difference between the haves and the have-nots is so vast? How has it come to this …what has happened to fairness and justice for all in a social sense? I am disappointed in the England I found on my last visit …happy that I saw my beautiful Grandchildren, my eldest son, his 'er indoors, the daughter and my friends, but full of trepidation for the future. Am I glad I live in Spain? You bet I am.
Fit to drop.
Like many of you I like to treat myself on occasion to the odd bar of chocolate …fruit and nut always seems to fit the bill for me. Also on the other odd occasion I do enjoy a bag of cheese and onion crisps which always seem to go down well with the occasional pint of foaming ale. Then there is the occasional real treat of good old British fish and chips….have you spotted the theme here. Simply put, when does the occasional or even the odd occasionally… become the norm? I have written before that I do like to wander around the shops keeping an eye open for a bargain. What has
struck me lately is the amount of foodstuffs that are being marketed as “for sharing”. Giant chocolate enormous
bars and bags of
crisps coupled with 2 litre bottles of sugary fizz seem to be the secret
to a night in
front of the television. Exercise must be the best way to counter the desire for the occasional
treat so I
have vowed that from now on I will seek to have fish and chips with non battered fish (yuk) …I will keep the chair lift parked for a few days and my ultimate sacrifice …I will walk between the fried chicken restaurant and the burger restaurant back and forth until I have made up my mind about my choice. There I feel fitter already!
Gravitational Waves.
I was amazed, as I suspect you were dear reader, to see that science appears to have confirmed that Einstein’s theory of relativity is correct. The scientists have discovered that two colliding black holes have caused gravitational waves and these waves (please keep up) can be measured thereby confirming that Einstein was correct and that his theory is fact. Or is it that if they (the scientists) find more waves, then his theory will be confirmed as fact…as it takes two occurrences to determine fact or is it more than two occurrences… oh help… back to my personal drawing board.
