Year end banquets for Bertie Willoughby Saddle Club and Port Colborne Saddle Club

By: Heather Dilts Baiano It was a night of

laughter and celebration for the love of horses. Arpad Park Banquet

Hall was dazzling with hundreds of s m a l l , s p a r k l i n g lights, white table cloths and candles, for the year end banquet for Bertie

Willoughby Saddle Club (BWSC) and Port Colborne Saddle Club (PCSC.) This excellent venue is located on the corner of Montrose Road and Lyons Creek Road. There was a three- course dinner, award cere- mony and a whole lot of fun. 2015 brought a year of celebration for the BWSC. This marked the 50th Anniversary, and a celebra- tion cake was prepared to share on banquet night.

“It was great to see every- one at the banquet,” said PCSC President Carolyn Mailer. “Combining both banquets between Bertie Willoughby Saddle Club and Port Colborne Saddle Club makes it more fun for everyone.” The ceremony flowed

flawlessly as both clubs presented the many awards to the well-deserving mem- bers. Among the entertain- ment, there was a silent auction, penny sale and a saddle raffle to benefit the youth teams. Congratula- tions to Diane Iftody on winning the saddle! “What a great night,” said Amber Gilbert, president of the BWSC. “Everyone had a great time and lots of hardware was handed out.” As well as trophies,

there were grooming kits, Breyer horses, awards jack- ets and wooden photo albums. This brought a welcome and unique vari- ety to the awards. Gilbert also said many

of the youth team members went home with something. “We have a great bunch of youth at our club and every year they get better and better,” she said. “I can’t wait to see what the 2016 season has in store for the BWSC and PCSC youth teams.” One of the highlights

of the evening was the return of Lee Tarbutt. Shortly after a show in August of this year, Tarbutt suffered a stroke. With the care the amazing staff at both the Dunnville hospital and Hamilton General, as well as the prayers and well-wishes from those in both clubs, Tarbutt rebounded. His recovery was in no doubt, also con- nected to his determination and desire to get back to his horses and in the sad- dle. Tarbutt walked to the podium to accept an award, and even cracked a joke to his competitors. He looks forward to riding and showing again in 2016. Mailer said the weath-

er was great for the show season this year, and she hopes that same great weather will return in 2016.

year will be just as enjoy- able for our members,” said Mailer. With horses involved,

there is no doubt that it will be.

“Hopefully our next
